The King William Lofts Built in 1999/2000, the King William Lofts was recognized as the first new, market rate housing development in San Antonio's CBD in over twenty years. The project consisted of the conversion of two 1920's era warehouse buildings located in the downtown King William Historic District. With the aid of local architect, Jim Poteet, the development worked within the scale of the existing buildings, retaining as much of the industrial character as possible, to strike a balance between economic viability and the low density desired by the neighborhood. Several of the units (interior designs by a partnership of Jim Poteet, Architect and FAB Architecture of Austin) were hits of the 2002 AIA tour and subsequently were featured in numerous publications including Texas Architecture, New American Townhomes Vol II, and HGTV. The success of King William Lofts spurred the planning and development of several other urban residential projects that have sustained the trend of in-fill development in San Antonio. |
